UNDERTALE (PART 2)

UHHHH SO I JUST FINISHED MY FIRST PLAYTHRU OF UNDERTALE LAST NIGHT AND LET ME TELL YOU I'M ABSOLUTELY FLOORED BY HOW WONDERFUL THAT GAME IS AND HOW EFFECTIVE CERTAIN THINGS AT THE END WERE.

I did a pacifist run and hooooo boy as just a pacifist run it's a wonderful story about how you don't have to fight, there's always another way, there's always another way.

The flip side is, is if you do a merciless/kill-everything run, it reportedly becomes a chilling commentary about violence in video games and the senseless killing of monsters for EXP. I haven't had the game long enough to do a genocide run (nor am I sure I could stomach it after pacifist run??) and I hardly know how it actually plays out outside of what other people have said about how it made 'em feel.

But from the one (just one!) difference I know of between a pacifist and merciless run, and the general feel of the rest of the game, just imagining how unsettling the merciless run must get kept me up all night last night. Just imagining the possibilities of how the game would end with the connotations of you're a killing machine vs being a sweetheart who doesn't want to hurt anyone is giving me chills, and I haven't even really seen what happens!

SO THAT'S!!! PRETTY COOL, AND I'D RECOMMEND IT AGAIN AND AGAIN JUST FOR THAT!!!

BUT!!!!

UNDERTALE also implements some wonderful ((and often downright unsettling)) fourth wall breaking that is just absolutely BRILLIANT. I wish I could go on and on and on about how great it was but that'd be a pretty big spoiler!!! So I'll just leave it for you to find out on your own!!! It's better that way.

And I'd recommend it just for this stellar use of fourth wall breaking too!!! AND YET IT HAS BOTH, HEAPED ON TOP OF GENUINELY FUNNY MOMENTS AND BARRLES AND BARRELS OF CHARMING DIALOGUE, AND IT AT NO POINT FEELS LIKE A SHARP CONTRAST TO THE OTHER PARTS OF THE GAME

WHAT A GOOD GAME!!!

PLEASE!!! PLAY IT!!!!

UNDERTALE is such a great game with well written and well designed characters that are a blast to get to know (and befriend!!) and there were moments that left me cackling because they were hilarious and perfect, moments that shattered my heart to pieces, and in the span of an hour it took me from laughing to surprise to dread to heartbreak to anger to horror so strong it made me sick right back to relief and hwohwowhohwowhoooo what a good game.

Also there's at least six dogs in it.

And you can date a skeleton.

Nice.

SO PLEASE GIVE IT A TRY

the DEMO is absolutely free and takes about an hour to play -- to understand the full potential of the game you need to play the DEMO at least twice, but that's okay, the second time thru only takes half as long unless you're really trying to drag it out.

(Also make some different choices the second time through, seriously, it makes a huge difference.)

AND IF YOU LIKE THE DEMO

You can get the game itself for just 10$ and honestly that's a frikken, steal, it's worth so much more than that.

Also the soundtrack is stellar and you get a discount if you buy it and the game at the same time, NEAT!

((You can buy the game on the UNDERTALE website and on Steam))

Please play UNDERTALE.
