On Timing

Birth by Sleep, within FtPverse canon, happens 7 years before the Truth Hurts, not 10, as in KH canon. This means Sora and Kairi were 7 when it occurred.

The Fall of Radiant Garden did not happen 9 years before the Truth Hurts, but, 3 years before. If you haven't yet looked at the Timeline for the series, these timing notes have been brought up there. (They were also discussed on the old BBS explanation page, and perhaps the timing bits on it are still correct. I wouldn't count on it, though.)

On the Events of BBS

For the most part, these occur exactly as they did in canon. For the most part. Treat this as how you would treat the FtPverse version of Chain of Memories---the same as canon, but with a few additions or changes. BBS has more than CoM does, but that's the general rule. (It happens as it did in canon unless I've said otherwise.)

A list of events that are different / of note (+links):

  • Riku is not in this universe, so Terra did not pass him the Keyblade. Aqua passed Sora the Keyblade instead, as she intended to do in KH canon before realizing that the power had already been passed to Riku. (ASASch10)
  • Since Kairi was born on Destiny Islands, Aqua could not accidentally pass the Keyblade to her in Radiant Garden. Kairi cannot wield a Keyblade in FtPverse. (ASASch10)
  • Though not explicitly canon, I'd like to think the final Ven vs Vanitas battle happens as it does in this oneshot I wrote.
  • Vanitas as a whole did not survive the destruction of the X-blade, and what was left of him was absorbed by Shad. This is touched on in ASASch75, and will be touched on further in later chapters of All that Remains.
  • Xehanort's possession of Terra was successful, meaning he kept his memories and ability to wield the Keyblade up until becoming Xemnas and Ansem. (This was briefly touched in ASASch35, and will be expanded on in later chapters of All that Remains.)
  • Aqua did not sacrifice herself to get Terra out of the Dark Realm, and was instead sent there by Xehanort--a full recounting of their battle can be found in ASASch35.

On the return of Ven

The events that lead Ven's heart from Sora's body to his own happen like this:
  1. Ven finds refuge in Sora's heart and begins a healing sleep
  2. Ven's healing sleep is interrupted by the darkness Sora let into his heart during Falling to Pieces
  3. Ven meets Shad, and Shad's final blast of darkness sends Ven into a realm of unconsciousness
  4. Ven is asleep and completely unaware of his surroundings until he wakes up in his body
  5. Ven's heart cannot be dragged into the Dark Realm (that or self-preservation kicks in), so he exits Sora's body and latches onto Riku
  6. Riku unknowingly carries him to Castle Oblivion (who knows, the sloppy dark corridor Riku took there could've been caused by Ven)
  7. Ven's heart easily leaves Riku's body and navigates Castle Oblivion towards its own, which, yanno, isn't that far away.
  8. Ven wakes up and looks for Aqua, and they eventually reuinite

On the return of Aqua

The old BBS page stated that she was spat out during the Truth Hurts as the universe attempted to find balance and compensate for Riku arriving, since that was one extra person that it wasn't supposed to have.

However, I then realized that I wasn't sure how I could possibly explain "Aqua was around for Falling to Pieces but didn't try to help the worlds when they were in danger," so, her return has been moved to after Falling to Pieces concludes.

Since Sora is dragged into the Dark Realm and potentially doomed to be trapped there, Aqua is sent out because the universe knows it needs another hero and Riku isn't reliable. I mean. cough.

A scene covering Aqua's return can be found in ASASch82 (This also covers her and Ven reuniting.)

"Wait if she was around for Dead Inside why didn't she help. Why didn't she murder the Organization Immediately." I don't have a good in-story reason but please take "Yen Sid told her not to" and "no one fucking knew where TWTNW was except Riku and co" meaning Aqua wouldn't have even known where to go to start that battle.

On Terra

There are actually Reasons why Xehanort's possession of him was successful, among other things, but I intend to reveal them as All that Remains progresses, so they aren't going in a convenient list here.

As for his heart? Chances are it wasn't with Xemnas, or it was split two ways between Ansem and Xemnas, and there was not enough of it left in either party to make a difference.

Though, even if it had all been with Xemnas and Xemnas is a liar (he said it wasn't with him in Dead Inside ch233), it's still unlikely it would've affected Xemnas's actions that much, seeing as Xemnas retained all of Xehanort's memories.
((Unlike in KH canon when he was a baffled mix of Xehanort and Terra with no complete memory of either lifetimes.))

Also to note:

I said previously on this page that "Aqua and Terra were probably a thing" but that, I have realized, is incorrect. They are not a thing. They are not a ship. They are nothing more than adopted siblings who probably consider themselves brother and sister because they have known each other at least half their lives.

(This is further touched/ranted about on Aqua and Terra's character pages.)
