"Have you ever felt completely Dead Inside? As if suddenly, nothing in the world matters anymore? Like you'd give anything to retrieve what you have lost, to fix what you have done?" - Riku's been put in charge of a Rebellion he didn't mean to start, while Sora's struggling to overcome his darkness and defeat his Shadow. Then a bunch of other things happen.
Liner Notes: MasterPost
Backstory/plotting:
ORIGINALLY I INTENDED DEAD INSIDE TO BE A "PART 2" OF FALLING TO PIECES. CHEW ON THAT.
They were initially slotted to be the same story with a sort of interlude in between and then "bam part 2 we hit KH2's plot and get rid of the Organization bam we're done". Like that would've worked. (End sarcasm.)
At first, Dead Inside---or Falling to Pieces part 2---was just "vague Riku does rebellion things" while "Sora does vague struggling with the darkness like Reverse Rebirth" things. Namine and Kairi stayed on the Islands throughout the entire thing until the end where they were both kidnapped and then Riku and Sora met up to go take down the Organization.
Then I started adding things. The largest would be THAT aka ch185 aka Riku and Namine's first kiss. Because of it I had to bring Namine over to CO and make the Meltdowns a big deal. And then Sora's Shadow wormed his way in. And then Toby. Then I wanted to rebuild Roxas (well, Cookie talked me into it). Then Riku started getting asldkjfdslfj about everything. I need more plot on Sora's end so I had Maleficent kidnap him. Then I felt bad for leaving Kairi on the Islands and doing nothing.
It just snowballed.
Fun plotting notes:
THERE IS. A LOT OF PLOTTING STUFF AND. All of Dead Inside has been a huge adventure and it is the center of friendships and jokes being made there's so much I couldn't even cover.
Not exactly on the same subject but if you are interested in seeing how Dead Inside from ch100 on evolved I have a zip file of every outline I wrote for it for your viewing pleasure. (They're cool because they're color-coded and I made lame jokes.) (If the download link doesn't work lemme know I'll fix it)
You should really check these out because they are really cool.
Most memorable moments:
- Shad acting like a little kid in Halloweentown
- The Rewritten Kairi scenes rule (specifically ch87, but 97 too, and, all of them?? honestly)
- R
- Joseph stealing Yuffie's tennis ball
- ch174 and the whole family conversation thing (I still cry about it)
- 37 shooting an icicle at Vexen forgetting it can't hurt him
- 37 SHOOTING ICICLES AT THE DOOR OF THE COMPUTER ROOM
- Joseph and the chandelier
- All of Sora in Neverland
- Shad vs Maleficent (ch184 is probably my favorite of the entire series, and I mean that)
- Just. To be honest. All of Endgame.
One thing I'm grateful for:
I can't even list one. I've got at least three.
All the wonderful people I've met because of Dead Inside and the series as a whole. All the wonderful reviews I've gotten. Long discussions with my readers about my plot and my characters and KH in general.
The experience of writing it as purely just an experience, but also as a learning experience. I've grown so much as writer and it's all been through Dead Inside.
The fact it exists in general. I've had some low points lately but having these characters and story and plot to fall back on keeps me going. Because I can remember some stupid thing Joseph's done or some stupid thing Riku will do in the future and I smile and it keeps me going and it's so great.
I'm so glad for it I'm so glad for all of it. There are parts I'd rather not remember, yeah, but there is so much about all of this that I'd never want to forget. I love all of you readers. I love you. Thank you.
