Chapter 240 commentary

Okay so this post is going to start off as a variety of different fandoms

I started reading the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, and so far have really enjoyed it (only two books in though, and that first book was the prequel "New Spring")

I pondered a FtPverse AU set in that universe, which you can find here. The highlight of that is probably Aes Sedai!Namine with Warder!Riku. (though Larxene being Ase Sedai--specifically an Elaida I'm 90% positive Elaida's who i'm thinking of equivalent is fun to consider)

Also a separate Wheel of Time AU where fem!Sora is an Aes Sedai (Aes Sedai are only girls) and Shad is her Warder. But that stems from my desperate hunger for AUS where Sora and Shad are bonded to each other in some way (see also: the Soul Eater crossover)


Along with Wheel of Time, I got deep into Harry Potter AU thoughts last night, and put them on tumblr this morning.
I'll spare you the full breakdown, but I'm really behind the idea of Xehanort being the Voldemort equivalent, and pulling a Triwizard Tournament plot with Terra, which ends with Terra being norted, and Aqua fervently signing up for the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher position to pass on all her knowledge about Xehanort/Terra as soon as possible

It’s not happening

Sora was going to toss Riku a potion or something but a potion would hardly help and Sora does not have an elixir on him

SORA TELLS KAIRI SHE CAN’T PUNCH ALPHA IN DESTINY ISLANDS NATIVE TONGUE THOUGH

BECAUSE THAT WAY NO ONE CAN UNDERSTAND HIM

And if I would actually let them speak it then Kairi would call Alpha something really foul in it idk

There was a headcanon—not even headcanon it was based on one of the later kh2 manga chapters where Kairi stands up to Saix despite him basically blowing apart her jailcell

And in response to it

Tumblr user sorceressrinoa described kairi as a “brash teenage girl with no sense of self preservation when mad” and. yeah. Yeah that’s about right

I think Alpha’s more upset about this than he’s letting on but he is still being a little bit of a prick about it and since he’s been a prick Kairi’s reading his masking of his emotions as disinterest and uncaring

I can’t see it going in here - and inevitably couldn't find a place for it - but I mentioned in the outline that “Replicas deal in exacts, not approximations, which means they don’t see an outcome where Namine is fixed”

I INITIALLY INTENDED TO SKIP THE SCENE WITH RIKU but then he gave me the whole thing about,,,, even if Vexen rewrote Namine,,, it wouldn’t work and

I was like. yeah. Yeah that’s kinda important

It didn’t HAVE to go on the tail end of this chapter (and by tail end I mean second half) but it also seemed like it was gonna be too short to be its own chapter

Aaaaaaand putting it with the next scene didn’t make sense because it ruined the flow of things

Riku acting like Larxene is the exact opposite of okay but here we are

What also hurts is Riku could’ve asked Vexen to open the door again to make him feel more comfortable and Vexen would’ve said yeah okay but Riku’s too prideful to even consider asking

ghhhh h and then all the feelings about Riku

it just hits me really really really hard how much this affects Riku

not just Namine being rewritten
but the fact that she cannot be fixed

because it would be one thing if they had her original file. then all they'd need to do is reset her and at worse she'd lose a day of memory
but they don't have her original file
which means they can't reset her

which means there's no saving her--not in Riku's eyes. She was dead the moment she struck him in the back with that first lightning bolt

She was dead

Even if Vexen could fix her using Riku's memories it still wouldn't quite be her, like Roxas in Dead Inside isn't quite the Roxas he was in Nothing's Fair
if Vexen "fixed" her using Riku's memories, he'd essentially just be creating a new Namine
and that's bad enough as is

But it's even worse when you consider this is the second Namine that Riku has known
and asking him
to befriend a third after losing not just one but two?

It's unfair

It's cruel

And it pains him so so so much but there is nothing he can do

sighs deeply

AND THEN THERE'S THE FACT THAT should Vexen fix her like that--Sora and Kairi wouldn't want to abandon her like Riku wants to. Literally no one would want to do that. The HB gang would want to stay in touch with her

everyone would

which leaves Riku at the ultimatum:

stick around and put up with her, learn to love her at least as a friend...

or leave not just her, but his family.
