E3 2014 Post

Here's my E3 2014 tag on tumblr

LITERALLY EVERYTHING IN THIS POST IS NINTENDO AND I'M NOT SORRY

Nothing exciting happened until the 10th--when Nintendo's conference was

You should be able to watch it in full here

There's a lot going on I'mma break down the most interesting parts below

Things I don't mention in depth:
  • apparently there's a new Mario vs DK game coming out and it looks like fun??
  • Captain Toad Treasure Hunter.... idk if I'd want it.... but it looks pretty neat
  • there may have been some KH2.5 news but the only interview I saw on it descended into "let's recap the entire plot of the series" and I refused to stick around
  • Mario Maker is legit and looks like it could maybe be fun? You design your own Mario levels. I wouldn't pay more than $10 for it though

Isolated Robot Chicken parts from the stream--aka the best part

The Bowser/Peach part is the best but overall it's all just good

Zelda U - I'M SO HYPED - Zelda U tag

LOOK AT THIS LOOK AT THOSE GRAPHICS AND APPARENTLY IT'S NOT A PRERENDERED SCENE THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE IN GAME

PONYTAIL LINK. THAT ENEMY LOOKS LIKE PORKY FROM MOTHER 3. CYBERPUNK?? Also you can explore the world in so much depth it's apparently a little like Skyrim??
Like the mountains in the back there? You can reach them, if you wanted to. I'm not sure what that means in terms of the usual gameplay but apparently it's getting scrapped more than in ALBW. I'm a little apprehensive (I stink at non-linear games) but I was also worried about ALBW and it was fine. Plus I doubt that can stop me from getting this game (it just might stop me from finishing it)

Also it features this lovely link. Look at him. he looks so cool:

for a while we weren't sure if it was Link, due to this interview, but Aonuma later confirmed that it was Link and the initial statement was supposed to be a joke which got taken out of context

You can view all the speculation posts I made/reblogged about his identity here--I was hoping it was his daughter from a Cyberpunk future, but, alas

I'm still super digging the design and the graphics though and literally CANNOT wait to get my hands on it

have this super epic high quality picture of him too while I'm at it tho

Hyrule Warriors - HYPED!! HYPED GET HYPED!!! - Hyrule Warriors tag

That's the first trailer for it--they talk a lot but they do mention the!! character reveals!!!!

Here's a more gameplay-focused trailer

AND IF YOU WATCHED THEM YOU WILL SEE

PLAYABLE ZELDA

LOOK AT THAT DESIGN IT'S GORGEOUS

FOLLOWED!! BY!!!!!

PLAYABLE

FRIKKEN

MIDNA

I ABOUT SCREAMED WHEN I SAW HER BECAUSE GETTING HER BACK WAS EXCITING. BUT THEN SHE'S PLAYABLE? II DID SCREAM. I SAT GIGGLING FOR LIKE TWENTY MINUTES. I COULD NOT!! CONTAIN!!! MY EXCITEMENT

and if you don't know Hyrule Warriors is a spin-off collab with Dynasty Warriors series. Basically it's all hack-and-slash and the whole point of it is to run around and kick enemy butt. There doesn't appear to be a concrete plot, and it also doesn't fall in the Zelda timeline from what I understand
(It's like Link's Crossbow Training)

BUT ZELDA IS PLAYABLE

AND MIDNA IS PLAYABLE

I LITERALLY COULDN'T CARE LESS WHAT IT IS ABOUT OR WHO ELSE IS REVEALED PLAYABLE IT!!! HAS!!!! PLAYBLE MIDNA!!!!! THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS

ANYWAY This game has been like.... my second favorite to watch during Nintendo Treehouse events--though watching Yoshi's Woolly World has been a lot of fun and WOW it's been fun watching Splatoon too (Splatoon has probably been my favorite to watch.... though the girl playing Yoshi has had some nice commentary and the guy playing Hyrule Warriors has too so)

If you wanna sit through forty minutes you can watch Chris from Nintendo--who is amazing at Hyrule Warriors--play Hyrule Warriors right here. The first 20 minutes where he's controlling Midna are the best, because he does some serious bragging about being Midna (14:00 in is the best part)

You can see him play Midna and Link in that video and you can get a good sense of what the game runs like plus see Midna in action. There was a video later where he played as Zelda and I'm sure it's on Nintendo's youtube channel somewhere--or it will be in the future
(besides getting a look at Zelda's gameplay style though it wasn't very interesting. so if it never goes up it's not a huge loss.)

SSB4 - new character reveals - SSB4 tag

THERE WERE LIKE THREE REVEALS BUT THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS IS PALUTENA. PALUTENA. PALUTENA
The intro for her was really neat-o with the the anime style (a reference to some of the Kid Icarus shorts like Palutena's Revolting Dinner)

Seeing Pit and Link fight in the anime style was great and then Palutena comes in and just THROW Pit off the screen--that was the best part

And then you could hear Viridi in the trailer and Dark Pit showed up at the end plus
Palutena and Pit talking to each other during entire trailer like they do in Kid Icarus itself it's so great and a wonderful tribute to Kid Icarus Uprising as a game
(Also Dark Pit apparently is not an alternate costume for Pit in this game?? I don't know what that means but the obvious answer is that he'll be an assist trophy because having two Pits--even if one is Dark Pit--seems super pointless. Unfortunately. I'd have preferred him as an alt costume because assist trophies are pretty lame and chances of getting an assist you want are so slim)

The second (first??) character reveal was Mii! You play as your Mii in SSB4!!! Probably not the most exciting news but then you realize that you can import any Mii. You can make any character and stick them in SSB now. Sora. Xion. Riku. Abe Lincoln. Obi-wan Kenobi. Midna. Whoever you wanted literally whoever

You also have three styles of Mii fighters: fists, swords, guns, so you can mix it up a little and choose a style that best fits you/the character you stuck in.
(And there was something about choosing specific attacks for the mii fighters and 36 total different combinations of attack sets but it went waaaaaaaaaaay over my head. I'm the exact opposite of a serious Smash player)

Pac-man was also revealed as a character. The only important thing about that is this:

(source, based on this post--the joke here being that Ness 'n Lucas have yet to be confirmed for SSB4)

I've seen some gameplay for SSB4--as in watched some Nintendo people fight each other while talking about it. It looks like it runs a lot like Brawl?? I'm sure there are a bunch of minor changes but like I said I've never been a serious Smash player and they will probably go completely unnoticed by me

Also there's those amiibo (??) things which are basically Disney Infinity style SSB figurines that you can stick in the game or something. Not entirely sure. I don't care about them and probably never will. All it looks like is a bunch of more stuff to spend money on, and it's not worth it when I'm only a casual Smash player and will LITERALLY only play it with my family
(not to mention I don't even have money to afford a wii u and all the games I want LET ALONE a bunch of figurines that are neat but not necessary?? I hope they never become necessary. I cannot shell out that much money)

Splatoon - THIS LOOKS SO CUTE - Splatoon tag

I'M NOT SURE WHAT THIS GAME IS ENTIRELY BUT IT LOOKS SUPER CUTE AND HECKA FUN!!! I'm hoping it'll get an eshop release because that makes most sense when it's entirely online focused gameplay??
I mean, whatevs in the long run.
(Unfortunately the online gameplay seems to mean you can't play with your family unless you have more than one wii u. sigh.)

BUT THE GAME IS ENTIRELY FOCUSED ON SQUID GIRLS THAT RUN AROUND AND COVER THE AREA IN THEIR INK. THAT'S ALL THERE IS. YOU COMPETE WITH TEH OPPOSING TEAM TO MAKE SURE THE AREA IS COVERED WITH MORE OF YOUR INK THAN THEIRS
It looks like a lot of fun but it's super low on my list of things to get

There's been a lot of neat official art + fanart for it too

I'm 90% positive that is official art, but meanwhile:

look at this adorable fanart omg and there's so much more (source for this one here)

You can also watch some of the Nintendo Treehouse team + a creators of the game play Splatoon over here

Yoshi's Woolly World

NOTE: this video is 15 minutes you don't have to watch all of it if you don't want to. Though watching these two play was A LOT of fun and I'd totally recommend it--especially if you're interested in this game or have played any other Yoshi game

This game looks super super cute and look at those graphics and attention to detail it's wonderful

This girl was super fun to watch play it because a) over all the game is incredibly charming and her commentary is super neat plus b) the person she's playing co-op with,,,, kinda stinks and their banter is great

ANYHOO as you can see from watching the video it's largely like Yoshi's Story in terms of gameplay and graphics, but there are some elements (like the scoring) that are from the Yoshi's Island games. It's like a mashup of the two--hopefully taking the best bits from each and combining them

ALSO THERE'S A CO-OP MODE,,,,, THAT'S ANOTHER GAME ME 'N MY LITTLE SIS CAN PLAY that's not Mario Party or Mario Kart. Like I'd race Mario Kart with her on occasion but we went through the Subspace Emissary in SSBB together and that was a lot of fun and we can have fun playing Yoshi together too now

I wasn't going to do a section for Yoshi but I've been watching a lot of them playing it and I have enough thoughts on it that it needed a section

THAT IS ALL OF MY E3 2014 COMMENTARY!!
I'm well aware that it was all Nintendo focused but I also am the exact opposite of sorry. I love Nintendo. There wasn't any Kingdom Hearts news (besides a 2015 date for KH3 which people are complaining about???? for some stupid reason??)
What else was I supposed to report on?

I'll finish this off with a picture of Miyamoto himself showing some kids how Mario Maker works
