ATR ch54 - in which Sora actually starts training!

HEYA!!

This is a couple days later than I projected to have it up, but, AGDQ was more involved than I expected, and then, life, and then..... updating the FtPverse tumblr so it's tags look good or w/e. Lmao.

FTPVERSE NEWS!!

I made a timeline specifically detailing the events that happen ft the HB gang / FF crew before the Truth Hurts! It's pretty cool, and lines out a lot of stuff I'll probably never be able to ever write but care about immensely.

You can check it out here!

I also updated the Timeline to include a handy age sheet + some of these FF crew details, but, not all of them!! Just the most important ones. Still pretty cool, though! Still pretty cool.

AGDQ NEWS!!

Anyway, I mentioned AGDQ in the last post, but I didn't, like, talk about it?? In short: AGDQ is an event where they speedrun video games while also raising money for charity, and, it's super cool!! You can check out the official website here (they'll have another event in the summer!) and the archives here!!

(IMO watch the Mario Maker blind race, and, um, the Majora's Mask run was super great. Plus there was sooooooo much more. OH YEAH, LIKE, KH1FM. the KH1FM one wasn't that interesting though. Not a lot of glitches.)

And, if you don't know what a speedrun is, it's where they complete a game as fast as possible, sometimes exploiting glitches. Glitches range from "skipping entire chapter" to "getting the master sword early" to "teleport yourself straight to the credits and beat the game in five minutes". Or, the most famous: "backwards-long-jump up the stairs so you don't actually need 70 stars to beat Super Mario 64". It's mainly cool to see big glitches being exploited.

If you've never seen a speedrun, here's one from AGDQ that's short and pretty enjoyable. The fun starts at 9:50

This is a TAS, a Tool-Assisted Speedrun, meaning they used emulators, gameshark codes, cheats, slowdowns, and savestates to get the absolutely best run possible. They don't do a lot of games this way at AGDQ, but this was among the shortest and most fun, and if you've never seen a speedrun, it conveys the concept pretty well, yanno.

You can watch them beat Super Mario World in a similar manner, but, without any gameshark codes or emulators, just the SNES system and nothing more. It's, um, astounding, frankly.

So, yeah!

CHAPTER TIME!

Read here!

Chapter tag!

This chapter was pretty fun---I'm proud of my Sora/Kairi interaction and the start, and, um I love writing for Aqua a lot, so it's always a treat to get to write for her!

Semi-related, because it inspired a lot of things in this chapter and the next, you should read this KH fic called "Worry For Me". It's an AU of BBS where Vanitas goes after Ven waaaaaaaaay before he's supposed to, and if you're a sucker for Vanitas or VenVan or mushy adopted family feels, well, read it. Read it if you aren't a sucker for that. It's super good, and every character featured in BBS is written soooo well and it's. It's really worth a read. Please read it.

Rest of my commentary under the cut!

I was gonna have Sora say “Kano’s not a good liar” but I was afraid that may have contradicted something like, back from Dead Inside so I decided to just, not. (Even though the concept is more like "he's not a good liar bcause he can't lie to me because bodysharing" buuuut whatever.)

I’M REALLY FOND OF THE IDEA THAT KANO CAN SENSE WHERE VEN IS BTW B)) THOUGH, honestly I just, really love Kano/Ven dynamic. You should see why in the coming chapters.

Also I kept thinking of Worry For Me the whole time because Vanitas in that could also just, turn and point exactly to where Ven was at any given time and WHHOOO I’m so here for that

((also I mayyyy have stolen this "Kano/Sora can sense Ven thing" from Worry For Me, oooops))

When writing a part of me was like “shouldn’t Aqua be mad sora’s ‘late’” but then the rest of me went “no because they didn’t set a time and also she can’t even keep track of time anymore, she’ll cut him some slack on the first meeting, if not always, if not just because she honestly doesn’t know whether or not he’s actually late because How Do Time”

ALSO CONSIDER: //HER// BEING LATE TO A TRAINING SESSION BC LOL HOW DO YOU EVEN KEEP TRACK OF TIME ANYMORE (7 years in Hell Dimension will do that to ya)

Yen sid uses Ven’s full name and Ven just gets >:[ grumpy faced (( which is different from >:(  ))

I thought about adding a couple paragraphs for them to discuss the “you shouldn’t tell ppl about other worlds!!!” dealio because Aqua/Ven are probably bigish on that but it, it added nothing, it serves nothing to me. I refuse.

These are real good brainstorm notes

Yen Sid shakes his head “no, it is not normal”
“Didn’t you say you’d look at it?” Kairi asks, a little, a little meanly, a little accusing, a little, just, Kairi about the whole matter
“Well, is now really the time…?” Aqua asks “me and Sora do have to start training EVENTUALLY”
“Me ‘n him” Kairi jerks a thumb at yen sid, ah yes, very Kairi “could always go check it out while you and sora stay here and train. Ven can… do whatever he wants”
Ven shrugs, but before he can get out I’d rather stay with Aqua, Sora quickly pulls him aside and just “please go with Kairi and keep her from being horrendously rude to Yen Sid, please”

I KEPT HAVNG REALLY STRONG FEELS ABOUT AQUA AND HAVE TO STOP FOR LIKE FIVE MINUTES TO COMPOSE MYSELF, WRITING IS HARD

IN OTHER NEWS: SHE WAS SLIGHTLY WORRIED ABOUT “UH YEN SID LEFT NOW I HAVE TO DO THIS,,,, MYSELF,,,,” but also she may have flat out zoned, she has a problem with that,,,,

Sora says he wants to be a Keyblade Master and she smiles fondly because He’s Just Like Her And Terra And Ven

[continuously thinks about Worry for Me while writing this] look, it’s fine
((there’s a scene in the third chap where Terra talks to Vanitas about his footwork and I, wanted to reference it, ended up rereading a large portion of it, whatever))

That's all my notes!!!

Look forward to the next chapter---It covers a certain someone not being as rude as she could be, and, um, some new developments.

Also read Worry for Me because it's good.
