This was supposed to be more dramatic. Like Maleficent was supposed to nearly have plunged Sora back into darkness more dramatic(I still have the image in my head of him on his knees being held there by strands of darkness which are slowly creeping around to consume his entire body while Maleficent watches and looks very pleased about it and even maybe does the in-his-personal-space-stroking-his-cheek thing ugh)

And then of course Shad was supposed to show up and block like the definite blow and I guess free Sora and he’s like “NO EXCUSE ME THIS IS MY TURF THIS IS MY JOB YOU AIN’T GONNA DO IT FOR ME”

Hoooweeeeverrrrr given Shad’s recent dealings with Maleficent + me not wanting to drag this out

We’re gonna go a different route Shad’s gonna show up sooner and instead of “HEY NO HANDS OFF MALEFICENT MINE” he’s gonna be like “haha yeah Sora get ready I’ve been planning this revenge for a while now time to carry it out”

Bc really it isn’t any longer a “OH CRAP MALEFICEN’TS PLUNGING SORA INTO DARKNESS I NEED TO STOP HER THAT IS MY JOB” it’s a “I fucking knew this was coming time to get on with the show”

Ah yes and then I need to post this bit of my brainstorm:

A WILD SHAD APPEARS AND DEFLECTS MALEFICEN’TS BLOW

The smoke clears

Sora’s shocked

Maleficent laughs

“you again, boy?” she scoffs “What do expect to accomplish here? Especially after how our last meeting went.”

His eyes narrow

bitter

But he’s smirking

Keeping the show moving

“This time, I’ve got a secret weapon” and his eyes dart over to Sora

(he’s like in anime bent over pose one hand with fingers poised on the ground the other hand behind him like he was skidding heh)

“You’re helping me?” Sora asks, appalled

“Helping you?” Shad laughs, smirk widening into a sick grin “More like using you”

And he tugs his hand

Gripping Sora’s heartstrings and pulling

And Sora moves

oh also this one:

"No I’m fine don’t worry about me!!" (and Sora waves him off but who is speaking? We don’t know—actually it was Shad but that makes the humor go ppptthhbbbdd down the drain)

"Which one of you said that?" (that's mickey)

"Sora!"

"No it wasn’t!"

"Oh just shut up and work with me!"

 (There's actually a lot more but I won't share it now-- I think when I finish Dead Inside I'm going to just upload all my brainstorm/extra docs to google drive for your viewing pleasure)

OKAY SO THE PICTURE'S KINDA BAD QUALITY SORRY ABOUT THAT but I wanted a cap to prove it is 100% possible for someone to be thrown over that railing and into the garden.

Maleficent still calls him a pest and it makes me so happy

I can’t use “shit eating grin” in story I can’t.
(that was totally how you could describe the grin on Shad's face though)

Actually wordy is going to serve me better in this battle. Because it’s not supposed to be sharp and quick it’s supposed to be what the heck this feels disgusting and I need to portray the disgust more than I need to portray the battle. I need to make your stomach churn, not make your heart race with adrenaline. Adrenaline would be great but stomach churning is muuuuchhh more important for this scene

And I think I did a pretty good job with that

I’m actually really proud of myself I’ve kept super quiet about this plot point and so it’s going to be sprung on you and it’s great it really is I’m pretty confident none of you will see it coming

AND I GUESS THAT’S A LITTLE ARROGANT I’M SURE ONE OF YOU COULD'VE GUESSED

I'M JUST REALLY PROUD BECAUSE FOR THE MOST PART I KEPT EXTREMELY HUSH HUSH ABOUT IT AND THAT IS AN ACCOMPLISHMENT

This was in my brainstorm:

“I DON’T NEED TO PROVE ANYTHING TO YOU!” and so badly I want spit to fly from his mouth and hit Sora in the face and Sora grimaces because he can’t move to wipe it away

And it made it instory

I HAD TO SCRAP SHAD BEING SUPER POSSESSIVE OF SORA like “this is MINE he is MINE get your hands OFF this is MY TURF” and like all this other stuff—it made it in but it initially had a bigger emphasis

One thing Nintendo has taught me about dresses is that if it’s long enough you have to pick it up to run

(Peach always did it I can still see her doing it in Mario Party 1)

Idk but would they (Sora and Shad) have the same vocal chords in general or do they specifically sound more alike when sharing a body????

I'm not sure if "similar vocal chords" is what they have, but I noted in this post on tumblr--which is actually in the chapter tag-- that points out Shad and Sora do generally sound alike.
Like Shad is often more cocky than Sora ever is, and he tends to mock people a lot, and when he's upset he does a lot of yelling, but that's like the only explicit difference and only one of those is actual tone.

I really wanted Minnie to show up in that chapter but it was too many characters to handle
Also if I'd put Minnie out there Maleficent would've bolted because combined Mickey and Minnie are super hecka powerful

NOTHING MAKESM E HAPPIER THAN SORA AND SHAD ARGUING WHILE IN THE SAME BODY

oHHH GOSH BUT THE MECHANICS OF THIS. LIKE A BATTLE. IN A VIDEO GAME.

Sora’d be fighting Maleficent and like you’d be controlling Sora of course but Sora would move without you controlling him (like when the controller freaks out) and you could kind of fight against it but it doesn’t exactly work

and there’s probably sections where it’s like “SPAM X TO BREAK FREE” or it gives you a string of button combinations you have to get right to break free and of course Sora and Shad and Maleficent would all talk on top of it sort of like Kid Icarus Uprising and

wow that’d be so cool

It'd be more a scripted battle than anything else, where yes you can do some stuff but there are certain actions that are determined for you
Like say you'd run around and attack Maleficent--or Sora would attack Maleficent while you could either let him or try and stop him (neither affects the battle)

Until you get to a point in the dialogue where Sora breaks free and like I said you have to spam X or input a string of buttons
(the string of buttons may get longer as time wears on)

And then dialogue will happen before you go into the battle again

I think that'd be super cool
