The Main Cast and.... Hogwarts houses???
Yup, hello, here I am for the Main Five (Sora/Kairi/Riku/Namine/Kano) and their Hogwarts house sortings.
Except, this isn't a short thing, or an AU, it's a personality test/analysis of sorts.
See, there's this tumblr blog called sortinghatchats and they have this system of sorting that's incredibly in depth but also works. It's not just "you're brave so you're Gryffindor, you're smart so Ravenclaw, loyal/hardworking = Hufflepuff, selfish/cunning = Slytherin"
It's so much more than that.
They have a basics page but it's incredibly dense so, here's the short version. They break it down into two parts: your primary and your secondary. Primary is WHY you do things. Gryffindors value right and wrong, Ravenclaws value learning, Hufflepuffs people and community, Slytherins value them and theirs. Secondary is the HOW. Gryffindors charge, Ravenclaws study, Hufflepuffs work hard and gather favors, Slytherins adapt.
That's just, a really broken down version, but, YOU GET THE IDEA, PROBABLY?
They also have things called models which are like "I understand how Gryffindors think and am able to think like that myself, but I generally think more like a Hufflepuff" or "I know how a Gryffindor acts and really enjoy acting that way myself but when threatened that's not how I'm going to respond." Or, that's how I understand it, in short.
So, yeah.
Yeah.
This is another case of "it's just copy+pasted from tumblr, but I'm porting it here because it's big and kinda interesting and people who don't look at my tumblr might care."

Misc thoughts about the FtPverse main four! (Sora/Kairi/Namine/Riku)
I've made a couple posts about them on tumblr and thought I'd port some of the more In Depth ones or the more interesting ones over!!!
Well, these are largely just posts I've made in the past two weeks, but, STILL.
First off look at this super cool render of them that tumblr user tiduspoo did??? It's so good?? You can download it and a couple other misc renders by them here, or look at their other renders, in general! They do some really good stuff??? Omg.
An intro:
So, like, Falling to Pieces and beginning parts of Dead Inside may make you believe that they weren't all super close and it was kind of "Sora and Kairi are friends and Riku and Namine are friends and sometimes all four interact, but, lol" and that's!!!
That's wrong.
They all know each other well they're all good friends, all four of them, they are!!! They are.
I don't talk about it much and I don't think I could articulate the reasons they're friends and everything they do together or at the drop of a hat what the separate dynamics are between the four of them quite yet but, just,
Don't think they aren't friends. They are, and they're all really close.
An AU - Kairi stays in CO w/ Riku and Namine instead of on the Islands in Dead Inside
This AU is part of what started getting me thinking about the Dead Inside edit I mentioned in the last post, though it's sort of tied into the current chapter of ATR (57) I'm writing, as well. ATR57 is just entirely a NamiKai, and it got me thinking about their dynamic, and I got mad about, well, Namine not mentioning Kairi in Dead Inside, among other things.
So.
Dead Inside AU where instead of going on a wild goosechase after Sora, Kairi just stays in CO w/ Namine and Riku. What a good idea.
- Namine gets her like, a day after she first arrives in CO. She knows Kairi would hate to be left behind. (Edit: Riku convinces Namine to wait until after Sora's gone, because "Sora just needs some time and then we'll all go home!" except then Sora heckin' leaves, at which point Namine goes "I'm not keeping Kairi waiting any longer---or even, she goes "this is ridiculous, I'm getting Kairi anyway" but when she comes back Sora's gone.)
- Riku begrudgingly teaches Kairi what he knows about fighting, someone teaches her magic, because they’re technically in a frikken war. She's not going to be defenseless.
- Now Kairi’s around to a) tease Riku incessantly b) get him and Namine to both heckin' chill sometimes and c) be there for advice when they both need it, because sometimes, replicas lack proper emotional depth (ha)
Eventually Kairi probably does try searching for Sora, maybe this is an AU where up until ch104 or w/e she hangs in CO vs on Destiny Islands, because honestly I don’t want to lose Tifa/Kairi dynamic
Canon: Kairi has a CD that she and Sora spent months perfecting to include The Best Upbeat Dance Songs ™ and she listens to it all the time, she knows ever up every down every beat every breath every word she loves this CD
Concept: Sora replaces the cd one day without her knowing (either replacing the cd in it’s sleeve w/ a double, or more likely sticking it in her cd player and taking the dance cd out bc she, almost never takes it out) and Kairi goes to turn it on, expecting to hear her favorite song….
Crush 40′s “all hail shadow” blares through her speakers. Sora’s replaced it with a cd that’s just 20 copies of all hail shadow one after the other. she sits up straight. glares at her cd player. screams to the sky “SORA I’M GOING TO KILL YOUUUUUUUUUU”
She hunts him down at Keyblade training, interrupts his session, glares death at him as she lifts up her cd player and hits play. All hail shadow is drowned out by Sora’s laughter as he remembers his prank. he looks too damn proud of himself and Kairi punches him in the jaw. Aqua stands in the background, not really understanding what is going on. She cures Sora after Kairi beats him up tho, so at least he doesn’t have a black eye for the next week
Important ftpverse fact about the main four: Sora has a ton of OCs and at some point he’s just discussing them with Namine and she starts drawing them.

Kairi mentions the two OCs she’s not embarrassed of any more, those also get drawn.
SORA WRITES FIC FOR ALL THEIR OCS that’s hella important.
Riku doesn’t exactly appreciate the concept at first and would only take a stab at one OC if anyone talked him into it (it’s probably Literally Him, but, without the crippling anxiety) thoooooooough after ATR he’s maybe a little looser with it, especially now that he’s read a lot of books and just kinda. i mean. he Gets It now.

Sora even at age 14 was still really into RPing them on the beach. Kairi plays along (she always has). Namine gets roped into it, but doesn't mind. Riku complains every time they drag him into it but he secretly enjoys it.

ATR ch44!! - UNDERTALE TOMORROW!?!
Heya!! I hope to start doing updates every Monday, but we'll see how long that can last! I'm gonna have some other writing projects coming up for Money pretty soon so I've gotta work on a nice balance between them and ftpverse, BUT, WE SHOULD BE FINE.
The chapter buffer is back up to 4 chapters so that's super nice too!!
NEWS:
I finished FF8, and after some thinking decided Aerith and Leon are siblings in FtPverse!! This is kinda old news by now, but, hey, if you missed it, the deets can be found here
UNDERTALE, an RPG built around the idea of befriending enemies instead of killing them, comes out tomorrow!! I'm super duper hyped about it. I played the DEMO a couple months ago and was astounded by how well written it was, and regardless of how many times I played and replayed it, the game still found a way to surprise me each time I got to the end.
It's super fun, has a great cast of characters, funny dialogue, wonderful music, and different endings based on your choices in the game (and, based on your choices during a replay!?). I whole-heartedly recommend it, even if you just play the DEMO, because the DEMO alone is a great experience by itself, and, completely free!

Basically I loved the UNDERTALE DEMO and can't wait until the full UNDERTALE game comes out I'm so excited to get to play because I hear it's suuuuuuper good.

Soooooo: initially I wrote chapter 44 and I was like "oh yes this is fine" but then I realized Kano, who is currently a very active and very alive and very present occupant of Sora's heart..... well, he wasn't doing anything. He was hardly there even though Sora should be hearing every one of his thoughts / feeling every one of his emotions.
So I went! Frik!!! And I rewrote the chapter. This chapter was, specifically (minus the two fics I wrote between it and 43) what caused the partial hiatus. Rewriting takes A Damn Long Time.
It turned out much better after rewriting it, though, and I'm pretty glad for a lot of things that happen with Kano in this chap (even if only in minor cases of expanding how the Sora/Kano link works and acknowledging it exists.)
Yes you read that right: Riku doesn't have a Keyblade. I'm fairly certain I mentioned that somewhere out of story on the blog Literal Years ago, but for people who weren't around then or have forgotten, well, here's the scoop:
Riku, being a Replica of the Real Riku from KH canon, was built at a time before Real Thing himself had actually earned the ability to wield a Keyblade. The potential to is arguably somewhere within ftpverse Riku, but as of yet, it hasn't needed to manifest.
The reason why they asked Aqua to train Sora rather than have Yen Sid and Mickey tag-team do it is because of two reasons 1) Yen Sid hasn't held a Keyblade and years and would like Sora to have some more hands-on training 2) Mickey's not a great teacher, never mind being extremely busy
SO YEAH!! There you have it.

Hello I'm here to talk about Aerith/Leon dynamic
Playing FF8 recently has obviously got me thinking a lot about how it fits into FtPverse, and the latest topic of discussion has been
The circumstances of little Squall's birth
Me and magik have adopted the canon for our universes that Winhill = Radiant Garden in it being the Place where Laguna shows up after being injured in war or, whatever (the exact circumstances in FtPverse are up in the air) and also being where Raine lives.
In my consideration of Raine living in Radiant Garden, I considered "what if she and Aerith's mom (Elmyra, btw) knew each other?" and that was an idea I liked immediately.
So! Laguna shows up, injured, Elmyra heals him up, and then Raine offers to let him stay in the spare room at her place until he's 100% again and ready to go, whenever that may be. Obviously, they fell in love, got married, this still follows the plot of FF8, no major changes except the setting.
One day Ellone is kidnapped by Adel for yet undetermined reasons, and Laguna leaves an unknowingly pregnant Raine behind to find her. This still follows the events of FF8, though in FF8 Ellone eventually got sent back to Raine---that is not the case here. Raine dying shortly after giving birth to Squall is, though.
The assumption from there had been "Raine's dead, Laguna's not going to come back, so Squall ends up in the orphanage."
Then I got to thinking:
If Aerith's mom, Elmyra, knew Raine well, and they were good friends..... why, exactly, would Elmyra let Squall, one of her best friends' son, go to an orphanage when she's perfectly capable of taking care of him (and at least at the beginning there was pretty sure it was only until Laguna returned).
So.
Aerith's mom raised Squall.
Aerith and Squall are literally siblings.
This is 100% canon, and I haven't been able to stop grinning about it for the past two days because it's such a good idea, it's such a good dynamic, and it adds an extra element to the "Zack and Aerith tag along for FF8" thing but also as to FtPverse as a whole.
Of course: they both know they're adopted, but that doesn't change the fact that they consider Elmyra their mother, nor the fact that they consider each other as siblings.
Also: Leon most likely introduces himself as "Leon Gainsborough" and that makes me the happiest person alive. (If you wanna get sad about his name change from Squall to Leon, please click here.)
SO YEAH!!! THEY'RE SIBLINGS AND IT'S REALLY COOL!!!!! I CAN'T WAIT TO WRITE MORE!!! OF THAT!!!!! MAYBE!!!!!!!! It'll definitely happen when I write FtPverse's FF8, but that's a long way off.
In the mean, thhough time I've updated their character pages (Aerith's, Leon's) with this info and further details about their relationship as siblings.
I also edited Dead Inside ch102 so that it, specifically, better reflected the fact that they're siblings.
Other chapters of Dead Inside are yet to be updated because I still have to go through all of the ones with Aerith and or Leon and see what needs to be tweaked, and other things (like, writing ATR,) have to take priority over that. But it should happen eventually, and, I'll be sure to let you all know when it does!!

.....oh yeah, for anyone wondering about Aerith's birth.
Similar to FF7 canon, her biological mother, who's name I've forgotten, shows up dying on Elmyra's doorstep with a baby in her arms. Elmyra can't save the woman, but she takes the baby in and raises her as her own. (This happens just a few months before Raine gets pregnant with Squall.)
SO YEAH THAT'S IT ANYWAY LEON AND AERITH ARE OFFICIALLY ADOPTED SIBLINGS AND IT'S REALLY GOOD, GOOD DAY!!!! ENJOY YOUR SIBLING FEELS!!!!!

At long last, ATR chapter 42!!
Hello!!! There's, er, a lot to cover I guess!! AND SORRY ABOUT IT TAKING SO LONG TO GET THIS UP I GOT SIDETRACKED LMAO
Semi hiatus news: I finished ch44 finally and after this it should be pretty easy to get my buffer up to a decent amount. Until then, updates will still be roughly every two weeks (maybe a lil less than?)---keep an eye on my tumblr and the ftpverse tumblr for updates as they come!!!
I spent the past few weeks really figuring out where I'm going w/ the future of ATR, and, I'm really excited....!!! Please look forward to it.
I started playing FF8 (for, uh, research actually) and that's been a lot of fun!!! I'm at the end of disc 3 now, and if you wanna check out my playthru notes, they're all filed here!! FF8 is a really fun game, actually. It might have become my new fave final fantasy!?! HMM!
Ftpverse related: I've determined that FF8 in Ftpverse happens obviously different than it does in canon, but also quite a bit different than it did in magik's universe. I decided that Rinoa doesn't just drag Leon, (er, Squall), with her, but Zack and Aerith as well. Why? Why not!!!
Details are pending, but thoughts I have about it are being filed on my tumblr under the ftp ff8 tag. (I also intend to write it, in the future, but whether that's before or after I finish ATR is a mystery.)
Not related to FtPverse: But I found this fic recently about post KH3D shenanigans ft Destiny trio and Wayfinder trio bonding time!! It's super good. Oh my god it's so good. Please please read it....
OH YEAH!! The last thing I've posted was the FtPverse 5th Anniversary special, ft Riku's Birthday! that was taken down from ATR of course, but you can read it here in ASAS if you'd like!

This!! Is a really good Korra mix!!! I'd just recently rewatched the end of season 3 / beginning of part 4 before finding this, and this mix is centered around what Korra's going through at the time (and it's really good)

Semi hiatus news: I finished ch44 finally and after this it should be pretty easy to get my buffer up to a decent amount. Until then, updates will still be roughly every two weeks (maybe a lil less than?)---keep an eye on my tumblr and the ftpverse tumblr for updates as they come!!!
I spent the past few weeks really figuring out where I'm going w/ the future of ATR, and, I'm really excited....!!! Please look forward to it.
I started playing FF8 (for, uh, research actually) and that's been a lot of fun!!! I'm at the end of disc 3 now, and if you wanna check out my playthru notes, they're all filed here!! FF8 is a really fun game, actually. It might have become my new fave final fantasy!?! HMM!
Ftpverse related: I've determined that FF8 in Ftpverse happens obviously different than it does in canon, but also quite a bit different than it did in magik's universe. I decided that Rinoa doesn't just drag Leon, (er, Squall), with her, but Zack and Aerith as well. Why? Why not!!!
Details are pending, but thoughts I have about it are being filed on my tumblr under the ftp ff8 tag. (I also intend to write it, in the future, but whether that's before or after I finish ATR is a mystery.)
Not related to FtPverse: But I found this fic recently about post KH3D shenanigans ft Destiny trio and Wayfinder trio bonding time!! It's super good. Oh my god it's so good. Please please read it....

HAPPY 5TH ANNIVERSARY!!!
Hello!!!!
I'm, I'm so excited to be here after 5 years of FtPverse, and I'm so glad to have had the chance to have worked on it for this long and to have met all of you wonderful readers!!!
I could blab about this for a while but, why type it all up when I can just point you to the video I made in which I blab about how it started / my favorite parts / the future of All that Remains / how much this series means to me.
It's not Q&A like I'd initially wanted it to be, but, whatever!!! It exists, and it's cool, please watch and enjoy it!!
I did this on my webcam and so it's not like the best quality. Youtube has some enhancements options but they only did so much---I couldn't reshoot though because there was no way I'd be able to recapture my excitement in this take! (Also, I literally only had time to do this once, so,,,)

Okay, it wasn't even really a question I wouldn't do this for the special anniversary chapter because I've been wanting to write Riku's birthday for a while now and what better time than for the special 5th anniversary chapter, yanno, especially since the entire series has been leading up to this, in a way, leading up to him having a family.
I MEAN!!! I said in the video that having a family (or rather having somewhere he belonged / was loved) wasn't one of Riku's conscious desires but it was what I started this series to achieve, so, it's really great to have gotten here at the 5 year point, after so long, and it's certainly something to celebrate!
This chapter is entirely canon, it's just, out of order. In-universe as they're seeing Yen Sid they're still in May, later May I think, OH NO WAIT, WE'VE MOVED INTO JUNE. They're in June, but we're still a couple plotpoints away from it reaching July for sure.
The plan is I'll leave this up in ATR for a week, then I'll port it over to ASAS until it's time to reintegrate it back into the story.
As for timing notes: Riku's birthday is centered around the Anniversary, and was initially August 9th, BUT!! where I live school generally starts in August (that's not the case elsewhere in the world or even the country, I realize) and so I went "oh, no, he can't show up in August he'll have to start going to school almost immediately I don't want that" and bumped it back a month into July.
And now, for specific chapter related notes!

ATR ch39 - A name for Shad!? and, other things
Okay!!!
I've mentioned in ch38 and in this chapter, but the Ftpverse 5th anniversary is coming up on August 9th! I wanna do a Q&A video of sorts, and while I'll do a video regardless of having questions, I'd still like to have questions!!

Less exciting: President of Nintendo, Mr. Iwata, passed away a couple days ago....... I didn't know him personally, obviously, but it's still a great loss. I don't have anything ~deep and meaningful~ to say outside the obligatory: Nintendo means a lot to me, I don't know how the company will be the same without him...
And I'll direct you to the tag I have for him on my tumblr which is largely artwork and posts in memory of his wonderful life.... Rest in Peace, Mr. Iwata. You meant a lot to us.

We're gonna start with some talk about Shad's new name, actually, above the cut....
So, I decided to go with the name Kano, because, it seemed silly to name him "Jake" or something when everyone else has a Japanese name. Yes, Kano is the name of one of my characters from my 2014 NaNo project. Yes, the name is stolen from a certain fictional character.
It just really sounded like him, though, and I liked it much better than all the other names I kept jotting down.
Will I still call him Shad? Yes, a lot, trust me my brainstorms and notes and such are all littered with Shad even though it's been ages since I decided on the name Kano, and about a month since I started actively using it.
I'll probably get better as time goes on, but, just expect me to use them both interchangeably.
Anyway, the rest of the notes:

A post on Aqua/Terra/Ven's ages
((Updates for All that Remains will resume updates in the next week or so, definitely before April 15th.))
So! I wanted to talk about this and was going to post it to tumblr before I went. Well. I never post anything on this blog anymore.
And here we are!
I just updated the Timeline ((largely so that it had updated Nothing's Fair stuff, but also other cleanup)) and I had to tweak Aqua/Terra/Ven's ages while doing it because I'd changed them since last looking at the Timeline, like, a year ago?
And I got to thinking about this, and I wanted to do a post, etc.
In FtPverse, during the events of BBS (and, sort of, now) Aqua was 21, Terra was 19, and Ven was 17.
Most everyone reading this is probably like. "Yeah. Okay. I see that. Except Ven." And!! I get you. Ven is implied to be like 14/15 in BBS. Hear me out.
I personally see Aqua and Terra being not just "no older than, like, twenty-ish" but... even younger than that? They were the "youngest prospects in years" for the Mark of Mastery, and while that's not saying much, I also can easily see Terra as, like, somewhere around 18. (I personally see 17, but that's in part just so I can stick with my Aqua-is-older-than-Terra headcanon.) Aqua's probably around the same, probably around 19.
It's not much, but I feel like it adds an extra layer to the events of the game? They aren't young adults who should be Responsible and know how to Take Care of things. They're just-barely-old-enough-to-be-considered-adults, instead, and don't really have the experience to make.... good decisions...
Unfortunately in FtPverse I couldn't put them at my preferred ages (again: Terra at 17, Aqua at 19). I... forget why, but it just wasn't vibing. I made peace with it, though, knowing that FtPverse BBS technically happens three years later than it would in KH canon.
And... if I was bumping Terra and Aqua's ages, why not bump up Ven's while I was at it? I kept picturing him as 17 or so, but was like "no, he can't be". But yeah!! he can!!!
((I'm actually Really Mad all the FtPverse characters are younger than me now Riku's still 15 and it's Upsetting I don't want to be writing for baby teenagers anymore I wanna be writing for my age group I wanna be writing for slightly older characters but no!! no!!!!))
ANYWAY Ven being 17 also helps me on another front: When he connects with Sora's heart.
After having Vanitas split from him, Ven connects with Sora's heart, which is a "newborn" heart, implying that, well, Sora had only just been born. (Also implying that it was four years before BBS that the event happened.)
That always kept tripping me up because I felt like it was really important that Sora's heart was "newborn" but in FtPverse it wasn't working because for Sora's heart to have been newborn it would have to happen 7 years before BBS. 15 minus 7 is, well, 8. And while I wouldn't put it past Xehanort to be an absolute asshole and force an 8 year old to turn himself into a weapon, that, also.... seems unlikely.
Granted, bumping Ven up from 15 to 17 means that he was 10 when that happened, and, that's not much better, but that's also how old he's implied to be in KH canon (in that 10-12 range) so, like. If canon can get away with it, so can I.

If FtPverse were a game: ATR Battle Mechanics edition!
(Don't worry, this isn't just going to be a copy+paste from tumblr, I went a little more in depth and clarified some things)
But first: obligatory playlist

so let's talk ATR for battle/party mechanics first. In the tumblr post I did Dead Inside Endgame mechanics but the ATR stuff is the really fascinating stuff
The party functions in a sorta KH/FF12 hybrid style. Battle is real time and you can only have three party members in at a time, but you can swap between characters whenever and it's only game over when all party members are down
Each member also has a different moveset/attack style, sorta like Dissidia, I guess. I attributed it to Dissidia in the initial post but perhaps that isn't the best analogy
Party Members
Riku - Riku is an absolute glass canon. his attacks are devastatingly powerful but his defense isn't that great and he cannot heal. When you're Riku you have to rely on shitty computer AI to keep you healed which is a severe letdown to the power his attacks offer because he just can't stay alive
It's a little like R/R except there is no Mickey sleight to keep you alive. You really do have to rely on shitty computer AI.
Also:
1) darkness based attacks (his strongest) drain his health with use, cumulatively if used with frequency, and more HP the stronger the attack is. It's a little more like AC3's "Tyranny of King Washingtin" animal powers mechanic than what I've seen in some FF games about darkness-based attacks
2) if you are fighting a thunder-based enemy you are screwed. You are horribly screwed. Riku gets hit and you lose control of him for quite a while--at least until getting attacked a second time a la R/R's "failed a duel" mechanic
this can be overridden by purchasing a thunder armlet, but that is one of those items that's incredibly-hard-to-find or requires-ridiculous-amounts-of-synthesis or is-extremely-expensive so it's almost not worth getting. (It also isn't available before Part 2)
Sora - Sora is pretty well rounded and a general jack of all trades. His attacks are weaker than Riku's, but, then again, everyone's are. I have other Special Thoughts concerning him, but currently, they are spoilers, so that is info for another day (which I may never remember to post anywhere but tumblr)
Kairi - Kairi handles like Tifa in Dissidia, and I guess comes off as a "scrapper". She's all fists and quick attacks--pretty strong quick attacks, actually. She's got a good defense against physical attacks, but not so much against magic attacks. She's Specifically Weak to magic attacks, actually, and if you have any magic warding items, they might be best going on her
She can do basic level magic, and Cure (all party members but Riku can Cure, actually) but if you're controlling her you probably never use said magic except to keep yourself alive
Namine - NAMINE IS REALLY COMPLICATED BUT HER MECHANICS ARE PROBABLY MY FAVORITE!!!
First let's talk Namine's fighting style--Namine is written to be a deliberate foil of Kairi when it comes to battle. While Kairi is all "up close in your face" and can be felled by distance magic attacks, Namine is the exact opposite. She's the one casting distance magic attacks, and is Super Weak to physical damage. She's also the most reliable healer, and probably has a FF13 style paradigm shift option between "ravager" and "medic", aka between "offense" and "defense". She is the only character with this option--Sora and Kairi's magic and whether or not they cure you is based purely on an AI which is probably as good as Donald's.
Now for the mechanic which is kind of absurd but really grew on me
Namine is Really Against fighting after being Rewritten and, as such, you have the "battle gauge" (name unofficial--perhaps "stress gauge" would be a better name) which steadily fills as the battle wears on. As soon as that gauge fills completely, she's out of the battle, you have to swap her for a reserve party member. Once she's out of the party and out of battle, the gauge starts depleting, and over time it will be at 0 and you can put her in the party again
The gauge can be depleted in-battle with the "soothe" command which calls a character over to calm her down. If you are controlling Namine, a character will be called over at random (Kairi with the most likely chances, Sora with second most, Riku with third most). If you are anyone else and Namine is in the party, the soothe command will pop up periodically, likely the higher the gauge is filled, and when you hit it you'll go over to soothe Namine. Obviously, like other reaction commands in KH, you can choose not to hit it and/or miss hitting it entirely
If I wanted to be REALLY PICKY about the mechanic, not only are you most likely to trigger Kairi's soothe command, but it's also the most effective, with Riku's being the least. Why? Because Kairi and Namine get along Slightly Better than Namine and Sora, along with Riku being the dude she was Rewritten to kill and so when she's stressing in battle it's really not good for her to be anywhere near him because she will panic more
Also, I'd love for when the gauge starts reaching critical levels, a "pounding" starts. In Assassin's Creed 3 (and perhaps in other Assassin's Creed games, though I wouldn't know because I've only played 3), when your HP reaches critical the colors distort and the screen pounds. You'd really have to see it to know what I mean, but that's exactly what I'd love to happen when Namine's gauge reaches critical. The pounding, of course, only happens when you're controlling Namine.
Roxas - I'm super on the fence about whether or not Roxas is an available party member just because he's going to come off as even more over powered than Riku. I'm not 100% on these trope terms but I feel like he's a combination of a Tank and a Scrapper. He lands a lot of rapid succession attacks, especially because he's dualwielding about 80% of the time.
Also, apparently a key trait of the Tank is taunting enemies so that their attention is on you and not your fellow party members so that you can take the damage, and that is definitely Roxas. So much so. Sometimes not even because he means it.
He most likely functions as a guest/support character who can be in your party (probably as a fourth member) and you can mess with his taunt controls mid-battle, just like you can swap Namine from Ravager to Medic.
He's less reliable than Sora or Kairi to heal you, but his Cures are more powerful and refill more of the HP gauge
(There is a chance Roxas has his own bits of story where you can play him, but you play him alone with no assist so, for the most part, his over powered....ness isn't so bad)
Other notes:
Honestly, if you're not Riku, you don't want him in your party, because your designated healer will spend a lot more time curing him than curing you
Riku/Namine/someone else is a good party, especially if you're Riku, but if I get to be really picky about Namine's gauge I would say it fills quicker if she is in the party with Riku--unless that is absurdly too far, which it might be. This gauge is pushing enough limits as is.
When it comes to dialogue it functions in a KIU style (them talking over the battle/while moving) because, honestly, I wouldn't settle for anything less. All four of them (+supports/assists) will talk regardless of who's in the party, just because that seems easiest on the plot. Also, miss-able dialogue is the bane of existence for a lot of gamers
I really don't feel like going over Dead Inside Endgame notes now so if you want those you'll have to go to tumblr

Riku – 6’2 (he slouches though)
Cid – 5’10 (he also slouches)
Leon – 5’9
Cloud – 5’7
Kairi – 5’7
Tifa – 5’6
Roxas - 5'6
Sora – 5’5 (Kairi being taller than him drives him
nuts—though once you factor in his hair he’s probably 5’7 or 5’8 lmao and he
TRIES to say that counts as being taller than Kairi but. No.)
Aerith – 5’4
Namine – 5’1
This is slightly different than the one I posted on tumblr two months ago, plus other notes I made on tumblr, but the main differences really only come down to "I bumped Riku down an inch" and "Kairi's officially 5'7" along with "Aerith's 5'4 instead of FF canon 5'3"
Also keep in mind that the KHcast is all at their full height by now--minus maybe Kairi still missing an inch or so, because girls grow gradually and not at all at once--so they are the same height as the FFcast, unlike KH canon would like you to believe be sure to click on the pics in the second one to see them in full
And trust me, adjusting to Riku being taller than Aerith is a thought it's going to take me a long time to get used to--even though, admittedly, he's always been taller than her (at least since Dead Inside started, anyway)
Other heights to consider:
Vexen -- probably about 6 foot (but he slouches tooooo)
Larxene -- not any shorter than 5'9 to be honest, and I'm leaning in a more 5'11 or 6'1 direction
Joseph is currently like only 5 foot or so but he also hasn't had his growth spurt (his full height will be at least 5'8)
According to the FtPcast blog, Aqua's 5'8, Terra's 6'4, and Ven's 5'6, but I'm leaning a little more towards Aqua being a smidge shorter and Ven being slightly taller
Xion is no taller than 5'6, and probably is 5'4 or 5'5, honestly (while her inheriting Kairi's tall "genes" and thus being taller than Roxas would be hilarious, it's unlikely, because Sora's short "genes" are strong)
Axel's probably 6'2 or so

Chapter 245 Commentary: Epilogue part 1
I could post like a playlist with this but I can't think of anything that's relevant to the end of Dead Inside that I don't want posted with ch246 so
No to a playlist this time
If you're curious, I went ahead and wrote the Riku vs Maleficent scene that happened back during Falling to Pieces--you can read it here
I actually had a lot of fun with the scene. It was written as if to be a file viewed from CO/TWTNW's computers, which allowed me a lot of freedom with the format.
It allowed me not only write Riku vs Maleficent and "parallel" it to Larxene, linking the whole lightning thing, but also play with the fact that it is not just a memory, but an unstable memory, like all of those in Riku's head.
I considered putting it in Falling to Pieces itself, but the difference in writing style + special format eventually made me decide against it. At least for now anyway. Maybe at a later point I'll put it (or perhaps a modified version without the memory formatting) in Falling to Pieces anyway. I wanted to. Hmm.
ALSO I'M REALLY UPSET FFNET WON'T LET ME DO BRACKETS SO I COULDN'T FORMAT THE COMPUTER COMMANDS AS LIKE. ACTUAL COMMANDS.

Chapter 236 commentary
So I finally got into Blue October pretty recently. How it took me this long is actually... kinda... a mystery... I own two of their albums haha.
But I guess I had to hear a song of theirs elsewhere (the song was Picking up the Pieces) for my brain to go "hey. hey this music is pretty nice" because the songs in my itunes library I'd already classified as music I "didn't like"

Anyway so I really like their Approaching Normal album and... really wish... I owned it *sad face*
If you're interested in more headcanons for the music tastes of the FtP cast, well, I did a post on that. I'd repost it here but it's kind of disjointed and would probably take me a full blog post
The most important thing is that Sora and Shad both like Blue October a lot but neither of them can listen to Hate Me. For like. Super obvious reasons. Sora can't get through it without crying, and while Shad's a masochist and will force himself to listen to it, it leaves him upset for the rest of the day. It eventually got deleted from their itunes library
(whether they deleted it out of mutual agreement, or Kairi stole Sora's computer and deleted it is a mystery. I wouldn't put it past Kairi though)
The soundtrack page has also been revamped, fixing the tracklist to better suit the series and stuff. I also included the 8tracks Soundtrack Mixes on the page. So that's pretty neat-o.

If you want a legit music suggestion for this chapter that would be "Gun" by CHVRCHES -- either version is fine but this rerelease whatever version is really nice......
Oh and Illusions by TSFH is also really good for this chapter.... oh I forgot about that....

Chapter 225 commentary
I don't even have anywhere interesting to start??
Wait I lied. I've been playing a little (a little) Reverse/Rebirth and I hit the part where Repliku showed up.
The breakdown for his intro scene plus a little with Vexen and Ansem afterwards is here

I WAS GONNA TALK ABOUT SOUL EATER BUT. MEMORY CASTLE AU
I literally keep forgetting to mention this. There was a prompt about "if your team loses their memories of their adventures would they still be a team" or something and it spawned this whole AU where the main cast (Sora Riku Kairi Namine) end up in this castle and they've lost all their memories. And then they slowly regain their memories as they escape the castle.
And, yeah, I did just give you the whole plot but it's still fun to read them being super suspicious of each other at first.

triggering it so if I used a drive form during that battle chances were I’d get
anti and while anti is fun it also means I can’t cure and when you’re
underlevel and playing survival it sucks)
But then I
realized that having sora go antiform severely screws up
later scenes and I really can’t afford it
(plus sora hasn’t
had a lot of trouble with his darkness lately??)
I tried for a bit to do antiform but it wasn't flowing and the flow of what happens in ch228 aka the start of the soshad battle is so much more important to me than Sora going antiform for poops n giggles/irony/whatever the heck I wanted it to be

Xaldin sent her off because of it but it was faster to have him invade her

And then here's a video in which I recorded myself writing it, so you can see kinda how the writing process works-- You'll probably need to make it full screen, though, and even then the text is really pixelated and hard to read. Maybe in the future youtube will give me an HD option, but no telling until then.

I was having trouble saying boomerang-dagger and it turned into daggerang. Daggerang. Joseph should call it a daggerang.
Joseph's a terrible role-model. He sticks out his tongue at people who are helping him and whines all the time. Kids don't be like Joseph. Please.

I did a breakdown of Cid's accent in there (sorta) but you'd have to watch it.
